The Technical Details
We take all the complexity out of securely managing 10's to 100's of gigabytes of offsite storage and make it as simple as working with a local disk -- except that your disk now has infinite capacity and consistently strong security wherever your customer's data resides.
At Your Customer's Site: The remotely managed Onsite Manager sits at your customer location. It maps out all attached network devices and uses the account information from Active Directory on the Small Business Server. The appliance monitors all the data on the server, server applications and workstations.
Based on your preferences, the Onsite Manager will process full backups weekly and/or monthly, with incrementals in-between. The data is encrypted, indexed and replicated automatically off-site. You decide how long a retention period you want. Do you have a folder with accounting file you wish to keep for 5 years, but everything else 3 months? You can specify different retention periods. Because the latest copies are local, your users can retrieve any file they wish at network speeds. Old files that have been automatically archived off-site are available directly to end-users.
Browser-Based Retrieval. A browser-based retrieval interface means file recovery can be done at any machine regardless which machine originally created the file. Mac OS X and Windows XP are supported for backup - with no client installation - using the existing SMB/CIFS shares from the SBS server.
The data is always secure. Each one of your customers has a unique key. Anything that leaves the on-site appliance is encrypted before it goes off-site. Since encryption is done on the block level, only incremental changes are sent off-site, making everything run faster. On top of this, each one of your customer's appliances and your server have special authentication keys built in.
Automatic off-site, out-of-region storage is secured inside Amazon's distributed data centers.
